Trunk shows were made popular in the mid to late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Dressmakers, jewelry designers and other
artists would cart their wares in large trunks and show them on trains or steamships to interested parties. These
traveling salesmen would venture from town to town introducing the newest fashion. Many times trunk shows were privately
held and only the elite were allowed to view their original designs.
